FAQ
Do I need my own tack?
Nope, Sunny’s has tack for all of their horses. You are however encouraged to bring your own supplies and tack to lessons provided it fits
the horse. Keep in mind that the hosting school of IHSA events provides horses and tack. |
What all do I need to be on the team?
The desire to be on it! We provide you with just about everything you need, semester dues are obviously required, however we can work out
payment options to fit your needs (there is an absolute deadline in early April.) If you plan on competing you will need to purchase appropriate show clothes. For your weekly lessons, you are required to wear heeled shoes of some kind along with a helmet (loaners available at stables.) Breeches and tall boots are recommended, as they train you and your muscles to work as they would in show-form. |
What do I get with my dues?
With current membership dues, you will receive either one or two weekly lessons, depending on your membership level (and dues accordingly) along with an IHSA membership which gets you a show number and allows you to compete in the IHSA events (See details below). Along with the great experience of actually riding, you get to meet great people that share the love of horses, and have fun through fundraisers, volunteer work and education of different aspects of the equestrian world!
Once a member, you will need to decide early on in the semester if you plan on competing. If you decide to be on the show team, IHSA costs will be covered by the team, so members planning on NOT competing for that semester will not be given IHSA show-status. |
How much experience do I need?
None! Our coach offers lessons of all skill levels and is very good at tailoring to your specific needs (if she feels you are advancing at different rates than other teammates, she will adjust your lesson accordingly or try to move to you a different level lesson.) IHSA is just as good at this with their shows, offering classes of all levels over fences and on the flat.
Am I required to compete?
Not at all, but it is something that many members choose to do after seeing how easy-going the shows are. As mentioned above, IHSA shows feature different classes for different skill levels. You will be placed into one of these levels when you fill out IHSA paperwork with our coach.

I have some clothes/tack/ and maybe even a horse that I need to get rid of, can you help?
We could always use more people like you! Regardless of your relationship with the team (friend, follower, student, teammate, etc) we could always use anything equestrian-related that you can’t! Please contact us for more info.
I’m going to be sticking around during the summer, can I still take lessons or help out?
Absolutely! We have talked to our stables about the demand for summer activities, and a full list of summer lessons, lease options, and jobs are available upon request. Please contact Bevin Nicholson for more information on dates and prices.
